Pick your favorite entrepreneurs: Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, the founders of Google, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey or Ben and Jerry. It doesn't matter what business they're in, or what their ideology is, I can pretty much guarantee you there is one thing you would never hear any of them say: “That's just the way we've always done it.”
They don't say that because people like this are never satisfied with what has worked in the past if there is a chance that something new is better. They are always looking forward and when it comes to considering what's best for what's next, they have no sacred cows.
When you think about it, that's a pretty brave way of living. It's just our instinct to cling to what works, even if there may be a chance that something else would work better. But having no sacred cows means challenging that instinct. It means being willing to let go of how you do anything, because you never know what might be holding you back.
Adaptability, a willingness to embrace change, and an eagerness to explore new directions, even if it means giving up some tried and true formula are the hallmarks of the true entrepreneur. They are also the principles of anyone who is not afraid to discover everything life has to offer.
