Spear Releases 3 New Study Club Modules On Excessive Gingival Display
By Celina Jimenez on November 3, 2017 | commentsSpear has released three new Study Club modules focused on treatment planning patients with excessive gingival display.
The first module, "Excessive Gingival Display, Part 1: Char - Diagnosis and Treatment," Dr. Robert Winter details the orthodontic, periodontic and restorative care necessary to treat a young patient with a gummy smile and short teeth. This module is redesigned and updated version of a module previously released by Spear.
After completing this module, Study Club team members will be able to:
- Understand key clinical findings necessary to diagnose a gummy smile
- Understand how the etiology of a gummy smile impacts the treatment options
- Understand rationale for different treatment sequencing options
"Excessive Gingival Display, Part 2: Laura A. - Periodontal Treatment Option" builds on "Part 1: Char" and describes an esthetic case that Dr. Winter is ultimately able to treat without orthodontics.
After completing this module, Study Club team members will be able to:
- Understand how to treatment plan patients with excessive gingival display and short anterior teeth
- Determine the most appropriate treatment for a gummy smile based on the etiology
- Develop a shared understanding of the disciplines involved in the treatment of these patients and learn how to improve communication among team members
The last module, "Excessive Gingival Display, Part 3: Monica - Compromises and Consequences when a Treatment Plan is not Ideal," builds upon the concepts presented in parts 1 and 2. In this module, Dr. Winter navigates a case in which the patient has excessive gingival display but is unwilling to accept orthognathic surgery or orthodontics as treatment options. This module also highlights the critical relationship between clinical photography and esthetic treatment planning.
After completing this module, Study Club team members will be able to:
- Understand how to treatment plan patients that present with excessive gingival display and short anterior teeth
- Understand the consequences of treatment if the patient decides to pursue an alternative to the ideal plan
- Develop a common understanding of the disciplines involved in the treatment, and improve communication skills among the team members
Study Club members will be eligible for three continuing education credit hours for each module they complete.
