dental practiceRemember when you were first learning to drive? Remember how hard you had to concentrate on every little thing you did—from being aware of the traffic around you, to knowing how much to steer when changing lanes and how much pressure to apply to the brake to come to a smooth stop?

Eventually, of course, it all became second nature, and now you drive through crowded traffic—while talking on your hands-free device and flipping through music selections–without giving it a second thought. Your driving habits, good and bad, are now deeply ingrained. I have found that most dentists go through a similar process in their careers.

Does Your Dental Practice Need a Reboot?

Early on, when you are just getting established, you think through everything carefully. You spend time developing systems and those systems eventually drive your habits, good and bad. They come to define things like how you handle a new patient visit, how you schedule and how you manage the hygiene department in your dental practice.

Chance are, though, that you are not the same dentist you were when you were starting out, so the question is, are those systems still reflective of the kind of dental practice you have—or want to have—today? How many things are you doing simply because that's the way you've always done it?

With that in mind, what if you were to do a reboot? If you could re-choose how you set up the protocols that drive the habits in your dental practice, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? How would you reboot your new patient experience? How would you reboot the scheduling system to fit in more of the right mix of cases in a timely way? How would you reboot the way the team functions together?

So take a good look around your dental practice with fresh eyes and look for ways to bring new energy to the systems that drive your days, so that those systems are aligned with the standards and objectives that you want to define your dental practice today.
