How to Make “The Mirror Effect” Work For You
By Imtiaz Manji on March 8, 2012 | 0 commentsI'm a firm believer in starting each day with a long, hard look in the mirror. It's a chance to remind yourself of what your intent is – for that day and for your long-term vision – and a chance to remind yourself of your capabilities. You can call it an affirmation process, but I think it's really about giving yourself that eye-to-eye energy that we all feed of off.
That mirror effect starts with ourselves, but where it really becomes interesting is in seeing how it works in the outside world. If someone looks you in the eye and smiles, what do you do? You can hardly help it – you smile back. Funny movies are funnier when you see them in the theater than at home because you absorb the energy from the laughter of the crowd around you. We all adopt the positive energy of the people around us.
So why not consciously use the mirror effect to create the right energy around you? If your energy is consistently positive, focused, and energized, your team will absorb that energy over time. If you can really show how genuinely enthusiastic you are about a patient's treatment possibilities, that goes a long way toward making them excited about it too. I think you can even apply the principle to your practice economics. When you are on purpose with passion every day, your economic success will ultimately be a reflection of that. People don't develop a positive energy because they have abundance; they have abundance because they give out a positive energy.
Life is a mirror. The energy you emit – good or bad – bounces back to you. As a care provider and a leader you want to always be aware of your power to create the right energy around you.
