Creating a New Environment for Success

When we at Spear renovated and expanded our workspace last year, it was incredible to see the effect it had on the people throughout our organization.
When you think about, we weren't really doing anything differently on a fundamental level. We were still offering the same services to our clients, but now we were doing it in a new environment—an environment with more open space, one that encouraged collaboration and one that, as I wrote about previously, was highlighted with reminders of our greater purpose.
This newly-revitalized workspace re-energized everyone on our team, including me. I saw right away how our people elevated their game. I can still see it in the way they move and in the enthusiasm with which they conduct themselves. A lot of that attitude, I realize, comes from being in an environment that is setting a new standard for client expectations.
I saw the same effect when we first opened the campus here in Scottsdale. You could see how the environment made a difference in the way dentists felt about the education they were getting here. They were enjoying the whole experience—you could tell by the way they lingered after hours and socialized—which meant that they were getting more from the programs than they would have in a different setting.
Your team, I assure you, is no different. Create an environment that demonstrates your commitment to being the best and they will respond accordingly. People feed off the energy that comes from their surroundings, they absorb and reflect the values that are represented in their environment. Just look at the pride people take in working for a company like Google, for instance, and how many top performers in their fields compete for positions there. It's not just because Google is a tech leader—it's because they have a reputation for providing a stimulating, progressive, and exciting work environment.
It's about creating a culture of success. If you want your people to deliver first-class patient care, you have to give them the right context in which to work, one that creates an expectation for a heightened level of performance. This is why creating the right facility and creating ideal team alignment go hand in hand.

New Environment. New Attitude.
